Role of the Parish Council
The aim of the Parish Council is to enhance and protect the quality of life of the residents of the village and to ensure that Flaunden retains the attributes and facilities that make it such a desirable village in which to live.
Activities
We hold regular meetings, all of which are open to the public. Once a year (in May) we hold the Annual Parish Meeting, when the Chair of the Council reports to the village on the activities of the year.
Dates and times of meetings are published on the village notice boards and through the Village Email Noticeboard. Dates for future meetings can be found at the end of the minutes of each meeting.
The councillors discuss and act on matters concerning the village of Flaunden including:
Finance
We set the Parish share of rates collected by Dacorum Borough Council and manage the spending of that amount and grants received. Link to Flaunden Finances.
Planning
We act as formal consultee on all Planning Applications within the parish.
Environment
We are involved with all local environment issues such as the removal of fly-tipping and littering. We monitor the condition of Flaunden footpaths and gates, and commission work towards keeping them in a fit state for villagers, ramblers and horse riders to use. We maintain the gateways to the village and other village furniture including benches and notice boards.
Highways
We advise the Borough and County Councils on traffic, roads, safety and other matters.
Community & Leisure
We support village events and organisations that the council considers beneficial to the community and provide Community Grants.
Safeguarding
We work with the Police and local authorities to safeguard the village against crime, vandalism and other anti-social behaviour.
